Chapter Eight

Confusion warred with joy as Medjed listened to his mate explain about what she was and where she came from.

But that must mean she worked for the fiendish San Ta Claws. He could not wrap his head around what he knew of that vile madman, and this sweet, beautiful, gentle female.

Why would she live in a place ruled by that evil fiend, when she was clearly all things good and pure in the world? However, there was one thing the fair maiden had said that rang true above all else.

She had told him her story with confidence, and he heard nothing false in her words. True, he knew nothing about villages or Elves, and he did not trust the man called San Ta. But his confusion was irrelevant.

Medjed was very much aware that his entire body seemed wholly attuned to her. A fire had started building inside of him the very second his eyes had landed on her luscious form. Her name was stamped all over his very soul.

This was the female he had waited lifetimes for. His blood buzzed in his ears, his body demanding he go to her. Her cranberry and evergreen scent was as intoxicating as it was refreshing, and he could almost taste her now. Sweet and tangy, wholesome, and new, and his. Yes, she was entirely his.

“I like the snow,” her soft whispery voice reached his ears like a symphonic melody composed just to tease his senses.

“That word, what does it mean?” she asked again.

“It is a pet name, a term of endearment, and it means my soul.
